Who can I talk to?
Please come and talk to us if you have any queries, worries or concerns. We hope to solve them before small worries become much bigger ones. If you’re not sure which member of staff to approach please ask at our Reception Office.
Your child’s Classteacher should always be the first person you speak to. Usually a quick word with them when they collect their class from the playground works best. If you need a longer or more private discussion then they’ll be pleased to arrange a convenient time with you.
What about a serious concern or confidential query?
Each Year Group is led and managed by a teacher in that Year Team. Usually they will be able to help you if you have a more serious concern or query. However, there is also a senior member of staff attached to each Year Group as follows:
- Mrs Gelston (Deputy Head) Foundation Stage, Years 1 - 3
- Miss Murray-Mower (Deputy Head) Years 4 – 6
You are also welcome to speak to Gaynor White our PSA.
How do I pay for my child’s school dinner?
The cost of school meals is £9.95 per week, £1.99 a day. You may pay by cash or cheque, preferably on a Monday morning.
What about packed lunches and home dinners?
Children can either bring a packed lunch to school each morning or be collected to go home for lunch each day.
Packed lunches should be brought to school in the morning in a clearly labelled lunch box or lunchbag. Parents must not bring hot food to the school at lunchtime to pass to their children.
If you wish your child to come home for lunch each day, then they must be collected promptly at 12.00pm (Reception) or 12.15pm (Years 1 – 6) and returned to school between 1.10pm and 1.20pm. Home dinner children must not return to school before 1.10pm as we need to know who is on or off site for health & safety reasons.
Can my child bring a snack to school to have at morning playtime?
Children are able to bring a piece of fruit or a cereal bar to have at morning break if they wish. No sweets, crisps or chocolates are allowed.
Does my child receive a free piece of fruit each day?
Every child in the Foundation Stage and KS1 classes receives a free portion of fruit/vegetable each morning.

School Uniform
We expect to see all children (from our Nursery all the way up to Year 6) wearing school uniform each day. Wearing school uniform makes pupils feel proud to be part of our whole school community as well as helping to stop any debates at home about what to wear!
We hope the following list is useful as a guide:
- Navy blue sweatshirt, jumper or cardigan (with or without SPPS logo)
- White shirt, polo-shirt or T-shirt (with or without SPPS logo)
- Grey skirt or trousers
These items can be obtained from most supermarkets and high street clothing shops. If you would like your child to have items with the school badge, these can be purchased at our Reception Office each Thursday (before or after school). A number of our pupils choose to wear shalwaar kameez’ or scarves, please ensure that these are also navy blue. You can also buy school fleece jackets, book bags, school bags, rucksacks, water bottles and baseball caps!
Parents are reminded that children should not wear jewellery to school other than jewellery worn for religious reasons, which cannot be removed.
If you have any queries about school uniform please do not hesitate to come and see us in our Reception Office.
What is the policy on term time absences or holidays?
Redbridge has a new policy on term time absence. There is now a zero tolerance on pupils being absent from school during term time and therefore no term time absences will be authorised. In addition, Redbridge Attendance Policy also states that ‘any absence relating to illness of 5 days or more should be supported by medical evidence.’
Please be aware that if you insist on taking unauthorised leave during term time then:
1. your child risks losing their place at SPPS
2. you will be referred to Redbridge Education Welfare Service
3. a fixed penalty notice of £100 will be issued
Since this policy was introduced, a significant number of families have lost their place at SPPS.
The fixed term penalty notice will be issued on the first day of absence – even if a pupil is absent to attend a family celebration (birthday/ wedding etc)
If you have any queries or questions about the Redbridge Attendance Policy please contact our Education Welfare Officer at Redbridge Childrens Services Department.
Health & Safety matters
We are proud of our Health & Safety record at SPPS. We ask for your co-operation to ensure that we ensure every member of the school community remains safe and would ask that you bear in mind the following:
- Please do not allow your child to use the climbing frame or other playground equipment, either before or after school. It is only for use when supervised by a member of staff during the school day.
- Please help us to ensure that the staircase between the KS1 and the KS2 building is kept as clear as possible and use an alternative route around the site where possible.
- If the fire bell should sound when you are on the premises please make your way to the nearest playground and assemble well away from the school buildings near the perimeter fence.
